About Rotary

Mission Statement

We strengthen our community by joining together as leaders to exchange ideas, form enduring relationships and create positive, lasting change locally and around the world through service to others.

WE ARE ROTARY

Since 1912, the Rotary Club of San Antonio has been making a difference in the community. One of our earliest projects was the annual Christmas tree in Alamo Plaza.

Promoting the importance of education since 1921, we award three separate scholarships. Established in 1991, the Sam J. Riklin Rotary Diploma Plus program provides a monthly stipend to high school students who are at risk of dropping out. Over 2,600 students have graduated through this program. Begun as a student loan program, YEF scholarships are now awarded to students of any age pursuing higher education. Norman Vestal Memorial Scholarships are designed for high school students who plan to pursue a career in agribusiness.

As part of an international organization, our club partners with Rotary International and Rotary clubs around the world to perform good works. Internationally, Rotary is fighting to eradicate
polio worldwide with the help of the Gates Foundation, the WHO and many other partners. Other projects include providing clean water, equipping medical clinics, building toilet facilities
and furnishing computer for literacy centers.

Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self.” Whether it’s serving meals at Haven for Hope, building playgrounds, planting trees, collecting toys for sick children or mentoring high school students,
Rotarians are in the community lending a hand wherever needed. As Rotary’s founder, Paul Harris, stated: “I believe we can change the world one life at a time.”
